In today's world, it is so easy to let stress and anxiety take hold. Modern lives are busy and it's easy to forget to stop and take a break. We have become so used to stressful lives that we think it's fine until it all gets on top of us and we start to experience physical and emotional signs of stress. Maybe you are starting to feel overwhelmed, emotional, unable to cope. You can't understand why you feel this way, you think you should be able to 'just get on with things' and this only adds to the pressure!
Help is available
Our threat detector is very powerful, which is why we can’t just decide to stop being anxious. Even though you consciously know that worry, stress or anxiety isn't a good idea, if the subconscious perceives a threat (even an imaginary one) then the subconscious will win every time. If you're feeling stressed or anxious, you don't have to put up with it! We can work with your mind to reframe fears, while giving you valuable and effective ways to put stress and anxiety in its place.
A normal response
So, why do you feel the way you do? Not all stress is bad - in some situations stress can motivate us to get things done, or alert us. It’s also a useful response to threat and danger that’s been in place from the days of our ancient ancestors. We may not have the same dangers they had, however, the same survival instincts are still in place within us. The problem is, though, that our minds are not very accurate at recognising a real threat from something that is only perceived as a threat and so reacts with that ancient response of fear.
